1887 — Yet another round of fisheries negotiations begins in Washington. Since Confederation, the fishing rights between Canada and the United States have remained contentious.
Leading the Canadian delegation is Sir Charles Tupper, the Finance minister. A doctor by profession, he relies on legal advice from the Justice minister, John Thompson. Rounding out the delegation is the Marine & Fisheries minister, George Foster. The talks continue until December 11 with little accomplished.
