1909 — Calgary lawyer R.B. Bennett has indicated he is seeking to regain the Calgary provincial seat. Although he had represented Calgary in the former territorial legislature, he was defeated in Alberta’s first provincial election in 1905 by Liberal William Cushing.
The election is held a week later and Bennett is one of only two Conservatives in the province to win, countering a Liberal sweep. Two and half years later he resigns and wins Calgary’s federal seat.
