1879 — Since Confederation, Charles Tupper has been one of Sir John A. Macdonald‘s ablest fixers. Whether it has been winning elections or securing loans, Tupper has been the one to bulldoze his way through to a successful conclusion.
That why he is an obvious choice to become Canada’s first Minister of Railways & Canals. In his role as head of the new department, it will be his job to push the Canadian Pacific Railway to the west coast. To sweeten the pot, he will be knighted in four days, becoming Sir Charles Tupper.
